| The big secret to Breeding Aid’s success over the past 20 years is simply providing essential nutrients such as fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E. These nutrients aid in the development of healthy egg membranes, embryo growth, and assists birds in producing the maximum number of fertile eggs. | Scaly face mite and air sac mite are common infections in ornamental birds such as budgerigars, finches and canaries.
Scatt is a safe and effective treatment for scaly face mite (Knemidokoptes pilae) and air sac mite (Sternostoma tracheacolum) and protects birds from mite infestation and keratin damage that could lead to ongoing health problems and permanent deformities if left untreated. | About this item

During breeding season the nutritional demands of hens increase dramatically. Hens have an increased need for nutrients such as fatty acids and vitamins, in order to lay healthy fertile eggs.
Breeding Aid has been developed to address the need for fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E. This combination helps to support egg membrane formation, assists in egg production and hatchability. It is used as an overnight soak on seeds, oils naturally penetrate through the seed hull into the kernel through osmosis.
Breeding Aid is particularly useful for smaller birds that produce large numbers of eggs or multiple clutches.
Additional vitamin, mineral and calcium supplements are still advised for birds on seed diets
Mix 20mL of Breeding Aid per 1kg (1 ½ fl oz. Per 5lb) of seed thoroughly by hand and allow the mixture to sit for 12 to 24 hours to maximise seed absorption.
Batches of seed can be made up to last a week, with treated seed not used in the first day being stored in the refrigerator.
Storage
Store below 30°C (room temperature) in a dry place.

Scaly Face Mite (or Burrowing Mites) are most common in budgerigars, but many bird species are susceptible. The mite burrows in, feeding on keratin. They leave characteristic honeycomb lesions as they burrow deeper into the tissue around the cere. Eventually, they make their way down the beak, affecting not only the beak but the cere and the eyelids. They also attack the legs and feet of the bird. In really severe cases, the bird’s vent can be infested. The damage it causes to the tissue can be extremely painful. If left untreated these burrowing mites will cause severe deformities of the beak, to the point that eating and drinking become very difficult and birds can actually starve to death.
Burrowing mites are harmless to humans, so there is no risk of an infection to us, however the mites are highly contagious to birds and any infection must be contained! You can only do this by treating all the birds in your aviary. Scatt is a highly effective treatment against Scaly Face Mite and air sac mite and is simple to administer. These mites only live on the body, so it is not necessary to treat the cage with a mite spray.
Direction for use:
Scaly Face: Apply 1 drop to birds under 30 grams (1oz) body weight and two drops to birds 30-100 grams (1-4oz). Place drops on the skin of the thigh. Treat all birds in the aviary.
Re-treat in 21 days if necessary.
Full recovery may take up to 6 weeks.
Air Sac Mite: Apply 1 drop to birds under 30 grams (1oz) body weight and 2 drops to birds 30-100 grams (1-4oz). Place drops on the skin of the thigh. Treat all birds in the aviary.
For best results treat all birds 3-4 times a year.
