Nutricore was formulated by avian veterinarians to provide exceptional nutritional balance, supporting optimal growth, feather development and immune function for baby birds. It is an ideal formula from hatching to weaning.
This product contains 13 vitamins and minerals, 9 strains of good bacteria and 7 digestive enzymes.
Nutricore has a similar nutritional foundation as Neocare, however is a “blend” rather than an extruded formula. While blends are not as easily digested as extruded formulas’, they are much faster and easier to mix and Nutricore still contains all of the nutrients required for baby birds to thrive. This provides two options to our clients, both of which will include the same Vetafarm Australian ingredients and quality measures, but with different processing techniques, leading to a difference in the way the products mix and perform.
Vetafarm continues to recommend Neocare as our flagship formula option for hand rearing, particularly in the case of neonatal babies and difficult to raise species. Nutricore is a lower cost formula, is faster to mix and delivers all of the nutrition required, but will not be completely comparable in growth rates for sensitive species or very early stage babies (under 7 days).

Please note the below directions are a guide only.
If baby’s crops are emptying faster than normal, add slightly more Nutricore powder to your mix.
If baby’s crops are emptying slowly, slightly more water can be added for a thinner consistency.
IMPORTANT NOTES
Always ensure food is fed to babies at a temperature of between 38-41°C.
Never reuse a premixed batch of formula from a previous feed. Mix Nutricore fresh every feed.
Always ensure feeding utensils are thoroughly cleaned and sterilised between feeds.
Always weigh your babies at the beginning of each day before their first feed to ensure they are gaining weight.
Always mix well to achieve a uniform consistency, cool to feeding temperature (38-41¬°C) and feed fresh to babies.
NEONATE FEEDING RECOMMENDATION (HATCHING TO DAY 5)
Feed a combination of Spark Liquid and Synbiotic solution only, for the first 24 hours or until your baby passes the meconium (first dropping). After the first dropping, mix 1 heaped teaspoon of Nutricore with 5 teaspoons of hot, pre-boiled water to make a very thin solution, then feed this solution for the next 24 hours. This solution can be gradually thickened over the following 3 days until the Standard feeding dilution is achieved as outlined below.
STANDARD FEEDING RECOMMENDATION (BABIES OVER 5 DAYS)
Mix 1 heaped teaspoon of Nutricore Hand Rearing Formula with 3 teaspoons of hot, pre-boiled water. This consistency will be used from day 5 through to when the bird weans onto an adult diet.
TRANSITION FEEDING
A Nutricore mix of very thin consistency should be fed to babies for at least the first 24 hours when transitioning from another brand of formula or when pulling babies older than 5 days from the nest for hand raising. This is to ensure babies remain hydrated and allows a period for adjustment to the new diet. The recommendation for this transition period is 1 heaped teaspoon of Nutricore with 5 teaspoons of hot, pre-boiled water.

| Description-
Neocare is Vetafarm's most advanced hand-rearing formula. It was formulated by Avian Veterinarians to provide optimal nutrition, growth and development for all species of baby birds.
This product contains fresh Australian ingredients and is fortified with all necessary vitamins, minerals, calcium and amino acids for growing bones, organ function and strong feather development.
Neocare contains both pobiotics to promote healthy gut flora and pre-digestives to increase gut efficiency and ensure maximum nutrient absorption.
The extrusion process is used to create Neocare for safety and increased digestibility.
Feeding Preparation:
Always mix Neocare fresh before each feed.
Do not re-use or refrigerate pre-mixed formula.
Never use a microwave to heat formula as it can create hot spots and cause crop burns.
Always use a fork to mix. This ensures proper mixing and consistency. Do not use a spoon.
Formula should always be between 38-41°C when feeding to avoid crop burns and indigestion.
Neonate / Transition Feeding
- Always start with a very runny mix. Add 2 small level scoops of Neocare formula to a mixing cup, followed by 1 large scoop and 1 small scoop of boiling water.
- Mix thoroughly using a fork for 30 seconds or until an even consistency is achieved. It is very important to ensure that you mix using a fork, using the back side of the fork to push through and stir the mixture.
- Ensure the formula is a smooth consistency and that there are no dry lumps. Check the temperature, and then feed.
- Over the next 48 hours, gradually thicken formula until the regular mixing level (outlined below) is reached.
Regular Feeding
- Add one large level scoop of Neocare to a mixing cup, followed by one large scoop of boiling water.
2.Mix thoroughly using a fork for 30 seconds until a thick and consistent paste is formed. It is very important to ensure that you mix using a fork, using the back side of the fork to push through and stir the mixture.
3.Add a further 3 small scoops of cool water and mix for a further 2 minutes or until an even consistency is achieved.
- Ensure the formula is a smooth consistency and that there are no dry lumps. Check the temperature, and then feed.
Feeding Frequency
The first feed of the day should be approximately 5-6am, and the last feed between 10-11pm. Once every 24 hours, usually at the start of the day, the crop should be allowed to empty completely. The age and species of birds being raised affects the amount and frequency of feeds, so it is important to research individual requirements thoroughly before you begin. Always record your baby’s weight each day before feeding.
